Karen, James and I got to meet Alton Brown on Saturday!!! It was really cool, and his live performance was even funnier than his TV show "Good Eats". It was like watching a scientist-comedian make food. Really brilliant! We even brought in our "unitasker" for him to sign, which I think he got a chuckle out of. (the only unitasker that Alton thinks that everyone should own is a fire extinguisher, everything else in the kitchen should serve multiple purposes) We had a great time, and we were very pleased to find that our favorite TV chef is such a nice man.
Alton Brown rocks.

how did you do it? do you live in atlanta area?
Alton Brown visited the local Nebraska Furniture Mart in the Kansas City area, where I live. He was trying to sell a specific line of really nifty ovens that cut cooking time down by using multiple cooking methods concurrently. The ovens were very neat, but very pricey. I can't see spending almost $2,000 for a range.
For those who are unfamiliar with Nebraska Furniture Mart, it is a three-story mammoth store full of all kinds of appliances, housewares, furniture, etc... It's like an IKEA, but the names are in english, and the brands are all familiar. I never heard of it before Alton came to town, but now I really dig the store.
By the way, Alton was very friendly and kind. He was still totally nice, even though he was way behind schedule and running out of time to get the next demonstration going.
