M.I.A.

I have been MIA for two weeks now, but I had good reason. For part of it. At least some of it, anyway.

1. I was in Indiana last weekend, and I didn't want post while I was visiting relatives.
2. The new Harry Potter book went on sale last Saturday, and I have been almost unable to put it down since I cracked it open Saturday afternoon. It's good, and it may be the last one. It is much better than the last two books so far, and I only have about 200 pages left to go. If the end is carp, I will be mad. Yes, I meant to type carp. (I think we have talked about this before, it's a James thing)
3. The newest version of guitar hero came out. That's right, guitar hero rocks the 80's is on sale right now, for all you dorks like me. There is nothing wrong with being a little dorky. I admit that I like playing guitar hero, and it is possibly the dorkiest thing I have ever seen. Pretending to play guitar by wielding an itsy-bitsy plastic guitar spells "dorky" in my book. It makes me want to play the real guitar, but unfortunately, I am a musical no-talent schlub. Those of you who have been witness to my fast and loud, yet oddly wretched, drumming will no doubt agree.

A new discovery about myself. I like red wine. I like it a lot lately. Not in a "Hi, my name is John, and I have a problem" sort of way, more like I want to try different types of wine and search for the "perfect" red wine. So far, I am still on the cheap end of the spectrum. The expensive end of the spectrum is a bit too much for me at this point. Until I get a better feel for good wine, buying the really nice stuff for me would be the equivalent of using super-expensive paint on wrinkled noteboook paper.

I will be a more frequent poster once I finish Potter, and once I get bored with the new guitar hero game. Maybe I just need a bit of red wine to bring out my inner author... Nah, I tried that in college and it came out like the emotional blatherings of a basket case. But, the amount of emotion did get me an "A" on every paper that I wrote whilst moderately inebriated, due to the amount of "feeling" that I put into each paper. True story, I am not kidding at all.

the 7th book is the last one...as far as i know. it should be, as jk rowling said there were only 7 hogwarts years, and no universities (though there really must be schools for healers and aurors and such), so she would stop after the 7th book. anyway it finishes w/ an epilogue
aand the ending was not carp (i guess....) it was pretty good. and the book as a whole was great : )

I read the last few pages while in Hutch last weekend (I have NO time to read an entire book without pictures these days). I wasn't disappointed. And I still need to see the 4th movie!

I finished the Potter book last night! After three nights of intensive reading and lost sleep, I have come to the conclusion that I liked the last book, even the ending. The epilogue was definitely the best part. I really liked finding out what happened to the survivors, nineteen years later. I think this book was the best one. The allusions in the first few books were too obvious, but the ones in the last few were much better. You had to pay closer attention to get some of them.

I wonder what her next series of books will be about???

An erotic novel involving Hagrid and that gigantic lady from Beauxbatons.

That's hot.

Guitar Hero I can understand, but Harry Potter? I just don't get it.

Sarah, thanks for the link. I don't know if I could sit through reading an encyclopedia. I think Ms. Rowling still has plenty of years to fill in if she wanted to create another Potter book, which I would want to read, but I don't think I would want an encyclopedia. What do you think about her encyclopedia plans?

Scottie, the potter books are very easy to read and totally engrossing. Once you pick them up, you don't want to put them down again. If you ever get interested, I still have all of them and I can send them to you if you like.

I got through most of the new guitar hero game, and it was definitely not worth the $50 I paid for it. It was just a quick way for the creators to cash in.

The "Cars" playstation game, based on the Pixar movie of the same name is a lot of fun. James and Karen and I have been spending quite a bit of time with Lightning McQueen, racing around Radiator Springs. Ka-Pow! Ka-Chow!

no prob : )
I think I would read the encyclopedia if she wrote one. It would probably be more like background information and little stories that she had to cut out of her books than facts, so it would be worth reading. Just maybe not at once. And it will probably be a while before she comes out with it, so when/if she does I will be really excited.
She has some background info on her website (jkrowling.com, i think), but you actually have to look for it (theres a cellphone on her "desk", if you type in magic you get something.) its time consuming if you're bored though : )
