Row, row, row your bum...

Gently across the room...

Tonight I made my second purchase from Craigslist. I got a used rowing machine for $50. It is strictly manual, no electrics to speak of, but it is a durable model. I wanted something that I can do on nights when I either can't or don't feel like running, and this should fit the bill.

Other news: Karen and James and I drove to the southern end of town to watch the meteor shower tonight. Unfortunately, James was upset about sitting still in the van, so we did not get to see the meteor shower at all. Bummer. Maybe Karen and I will get to see it a little later this evening from the window.

Maybe we can start selling memberships to Kugler gym. We'll have some rearranging to do to fit your gym pieces.

Hi John:

I started looking at rowing machines the other day. The Furman marathon training program I was following recommends rowing as a good cross-training activity. The Waterrower or the Concept II seemed like the best options, but a significant investment new. What model did you get?
I didn't seen any on Cragslist, but I'll keep my eyes open.

I got an old Precor rower. It is not a very user-friendly model, and it is completely basic. It is fairly smooth and it has had very little use, so it should be a decent addition to our gym.

It made for a decent workout, but I had a lot trouble getting my heart rate up. I don't have a lot of experience with rowers, but I can say that the one that I got was probably worth the 50 bucks I gave for it, but certainly not any more than that.

One thing to note: go easy the first time, the muscles used to row are not used often and they make life rough when they get sore. -It was difficult to drive to work for a day or two.
